All the air to air work was shot with a Wescam on a Heli-Holland As355. Heli-Holland were very helpful to us, gaining complex permissions for this work.
Directed by Rene Harlin, who having previously directed the action movies Cliff Hanger, Deep Blue Sea and Die Hard 2 is no newcomer to filming with helicopters. He is not noted for suffering fools!
The cast includes Val Kilmer, Christian Slater, Patricia Verlazquez and Jerry Grayson who rather aptly played a pilot! ( Gerry flies beautifully, but his acting ability has been compared to "Parker" in the original Thunderbirds).
Ist AD Cliff Lanning and Rene Harling brief film pilot, Jerry Grayson. Cliff Lanning was instrumental in much of our success on this movie. He told us what he wanted, listened to what we needed, agreed the plan and then importantly stuck to it. Which is surprisingly uncommon.

Pilot Jerry Grayson considers his "motivation" for this scene..
The Bell 412 approaches to land on the beach. The wind got to 45kts and made work very difficult.
The unit's 120 person metal framed catering tent that.was bolted into the carpark surface, blew away and was never seen again!
Camera Operator, Dave McKay prepares to lift with a Tyler Middle mount to shoot the big scene. We are not allowed to say what happens but standing on that island is not recommended!
