The Tyler Major Mount is a larger side/door mount, that allows the use of camera packages up to 120lbs. |
This is the "big daddy" of side mounts. The Major Mount was Nelson Tyler's innovative design, with which he and other talanted camera operators made the Tyler name so synonymous with aerial filming. |
Amonst the cameras that can be fitted include the Imax IW5, Showscan 8/70, Vistacam 8/35, Panavision 65 in addition to the standard 35mm and zoom camera packages. |
Lenses of up to 250mm, and in experienced hands up to 500mm have frequently been successfully utilised. |
The beauty of these camera systems is they are so reliable In critical situations where high technology can let you down, the Tyler Major have proved themselves over and over again. For additional stability multi packages of gyros can be fitted and can be installed in the Bell Jetranger or preferably the Longranger or Squirrel (A Star) types. |
With post production manipulation becoming common, it is easily possible to stabilise an image in the event of poor weather on the shooting day. It is not easily possible to remove rain drops off the front element of exterior mounted ball type camera systems. On the Tyler side mounts, the operator can easily dry the front element just prior to shooting. |
On exterior mounted camera systems, 1000 ft of 35mm gives you 10mins of shooting time before having to land and reload. With Tyler sidemounts you can reload and reload airbourne and keep going as long as the helicopter has fuel! |
